Flow State
what it feels like when you're working hard and in the zone; plus sneak peek of the frick video I shot last week.
My hottest of hot takes at the moment that I definitely stole from a friend is this whole trend of posting pics from 2016 is to help train AI on how to correctly detect and predict aging. (They way that the Spotify AI playlists have put So American by Olivia Rodrigo and National Anthem by Lana del Rey in the same thing is clearly picking up on online right wing pro-americas chatter… while not understanding that both of these songs are satire at best, is why I don’t believe AI can replace creativity. AI sees the buzzword but it can’t understand nuance or sarcasm or satire.) Which is great, becuase I went to look up what I was doing in 2016 and the answer was doing a whole lot of trying out creative projects from directing my first videos and trying out some editorial style photography. It feels like everything i’m doing now but bigger, badder, better. Or harder better faster stronger. (The real ones remember Daft Hands from the 1st year of Youtube). But it makes me wonder what I would be doing if I didn’t have the Girl, Interrupted feature of the last seven or so years. But I am moving forward with more strength this time. I shot a video for a museum client last week that I’m deep in the edit for. I’m still working on my book. I’m getting ready to launch a company. Reevaluating my priorities. Figuring out where to direct my attention in an ever increasing world that is determined to make itself known through it’s violence and aggression. I’ve never really been someone who says away from talking about politics but I find I don’t want to when it’s as bleak as the Artic blast hitting New York right now. In my last post, I mentioned you should be hibernating in January and working from your couch if possible, so I’m coming to you live from my bed!!!! Here’s what I was doing in 2016.
On another note that made me feel like a superstar - did you know in the 1960s mattel had a barbie doll named Casey????? I’m totally famous you guys. I know the story of how my parents named me but now I’m curious if my mom secretly had this in the back of her mind. And this is the grief again, more prevalent in these quiet moments in winter as I don’t leave my house much. I wish I could ask her.
For those of you who stuck around, you get a teaser of the creative process that goes into the video project. I can’t really share anything yet, but I will say this is what I spent the majority of January working on. The flow state is happening. So so much is happening behind the scenes and will start to unfold in varying degrees of volume within the next year. What I can share is how excited I am for this video with the Frick to come out. The storyline of the video is “Travel Through Time” in conjunction with the young fellows ball at the Frick on March 12th. Here’s a shot of me directing with my DP (Director of Photography) Matt last week on set.
More to share soon! Stay warm East Coasters!
